Bane:
A wealthy criminal, Bane was hired by Barbas to kill the Charmed Ones. He in
turned hired Ms. Hellfire, an assassin, to do the job. Hellfire failed, and the
Charmed One’s eventually ensured Bane would go to prison. Bane had an
attraction to Prue Halliwell, although he first thought she was Ms. Hellfire.
Bane is a mortal with no supernatural powers, although he is aware of the existence
of supernatural beings and demons. This is the reason that the demon Litvack
targeted him for death after he was sent to prison. With the help of the Charmed
Ones Bane was able to kill Litvack and save his own life.
Though
Bane had formed an attachment to Prue Halliwell he volunteered to go back to
prison and serve out his sentence.
Banshees:
Rare demons who feed on souls in great emotional pain. Banshee’s are attracted
to their inner cry and driven to destroy them.
They emit a high-pitched cry, inaudible to human ears, and use it like sonar to
zero in on the waves of pain emanating from the stricken. Once they’ve located
a victim their call turns into a scream that kills: capable of shattering glass,
liquefying internal organs and bursting blood vessels. Banshees are also very
strong, and possess the ability to leap great distances.
A
Banshee’s scream may kill a human, but it has a very different effect on a
Witch in pain, turning them into Banshees. This transformation is not permanent
until the newly formed Banshee kills, and can be reversed. If the source of the
Banshee's pain can be eliminated then they will revert to their former selves.
Though there is no spell to destroy Banshees in the Book Of Shadows, there
is a spell to track them. For more information on this see: Banshee, Spell To
Track A.
Piper Halliwell was able to destroy a Banshee by using molecular acceleration to
blow her up. Other ways to vanquish a Banshee are not known.
Banshees appear as human females with white hair and vampire fangs. They wear
tattered rags for clothing.
Banshee, Spell To
Track A: A spell in the Book Of Shadows to give someone the ability to
hear the call of a Banshee. When the Charmed Ones cast this spell they assumed it
would simply give a human this ability. Instead the spell transformed the
tracker into a dog, as all dogs can hear a Banshees cry.
To cast the spell the designated tracker must stand in a circle of candles. From
outside the circle a Witch must recite these words:
The piercing cry, |
The tracker remains a dog until
the threat of the Banshee has passed. While transformed the tracker is capable
of understanding everything that is said, but is overwhelmed by instinct and
will behave like a dog.
The tracking spell the Charmed Ones cast was only reversed when all of the
Banshees had been destroyed or reverted, not just the Banshee the spell had
originally been cast to track.
Barbas,
The Demon of Fear: Barbas returns to the
earthly dimension every 1300 years on
Friday the 13th. He must kill 13 Witches before midnight to be freed
from purgatory.
Barbas
appeared during the lifetimes of the Halliwell sisters, and was vanquished by
Prue. Because of a deal he was able to return again to try and finish his work,
but the sisters stopped him once more.
Barbas
was able to use a person’s greatest fear against them. In the face of their
greatest fear a Witches power was helpless against him. Barbas also showed the
ability to control someone’s mind by tapping into their fears and twisting
them to his own ends.
Barbas
hired the criminal Bane to kill the Witches he was unable to on Friday the 13th.
Baxter, P: The
great, great grandmother of The Charmed Ones, Baxter was a Witch who lived in
the Manor in the 1920’s, possessing the power to freeze (particle stasis).
She and her cousin, P Bowen, cursed and killed their cousin P Russell in 1924.
Baxter was an earlier incarnation of Piper Halliwell, and also faced a choice
between the souls of Leo and Dan.
Belland, Glenn: Childhood friend and erstwhile boyfriend of Paige Matthews. He visits her in between his globe trotting adventures and is one of the few mortals privileged with the knowledge of The Charmed Ones existence.
Belthazor:
Soldier of fortune and human/demon hybrid sent by The Triad to kill the
Halliwell sisters, Belthazor was the demon half of Cole Turner. When in demon
form Belthazor was extremely large and muscular, with red skin covered in black
markings. Though able to change form at will, he had difficulty retaining his
human form if injured.
Belthazor possessed great strength, the ability to cast deadly energy balls,
adjusting, and the power to shimmer. He was able to detect the presence of a
Whitelighter by touch, and had psychic senses capable of identifying human
murderers and tracking shimmers through planes. For a time Belthazor was also
gifted by The Triad with pyrokinesis, telekinesis and the ability to remotely
teleport objects, but these powers were removed when he betrayed them for the
love of Phoebe Halliwell, killing them.
Belthazor’s demonic abilities were tied to his inherent evil nature and by
turning to good and loving Phoebe he weakened them. His strength and shimmering
were unaffected, as was his power to cast energy balls, but his adjusting
ability suffered greatly, at times leaving him completely open to freezing by
particle stasis.
Considered one of the deadliest demons, until turning to good, Belthazor
murdered hundreds of innocents and Witches, without conscience or remorse,
earning infamy enough to gain an entry in the Book Of Shadows and membership of
the demonic Brotherhood of the Thorn for over a hundred years. He bested
extremely powerful adversaries, both demonic and virtuous, but his final fate
came at the hands of a human woman whose fiancé he had murdered. She struck him
with Phoebe Halliwell’s power stripping potion, completely eradicating the
demonic Belthazor and leaving only a wholly human Cole Turner.
Belthazor, Spell To Summon: Written by Prue Halliwell and capable of summoning the demon Belthazor, this spell worked by calling magick to magick. Once cast the spell was able to draw Belthazor to the caster, creating a tiny tornado within which space was warped.
Magick forces black and
white,
Reaching out through space and light,
Be he far or be he near,
Bring us the demon Belthazor here
This spell was only effective on Belthazor
as long as he was capable of shimmering, tapping into this ability to move him
through space and dimensions, and so long as he chose to allow it. By switching
to his demonic form Belthazor could negate the effects of the spell, though it
took great effort, and resist its call.
When The Charmed Ones attempted to cast this spell on a wounded Belthazor they
instead summoned the demon bounty hunter Krell, accidentally tapping into his
raying ability as a Zotar and drawing him to the manor.
Belthazor Vanquish: A potion capable of vanquishing the demon Belthazor. The key
ingredient was a piece of his flesh, and the potion would not have worked
without it.
Once brewed all three of the Charmed Ones needed to recite the incantation over
the pot to activate the potion. This was necessary as Belthazor is so powerful a
demon that it is to be assumed that nothing less than the Power Of Three would
vanquish him.
The incantation was:
Spirits of air, |
Belthazor’s
Grimoire: A magickal tome, similar to the Halliwell Book Of Shadows,
possessed by the demon Belthazor. It contained spells and information on his
current assignments.
The book had magickal properties and was able to be teleported by Belthazor at
will. Waving his hand over the
cover made the book disappear, possibly sending it to another dimension, until
it was needed again.
Bennett, Victor:
A mortal that married the Witch Patty. He never wanted the girls to learn that
they were Witches and have their powers unbound, leaving them to be raised by
their Grams. He returned after they regained their powers and tried to convince
them to give him the Book Of Shadows, but has since accepted his daughters as
grown women, capable of protecting themselves and wielding their magick.
In between his departure from the sister’s lives and his return, Victor became
quite wealthy.
Victor’s wedding band is a ring that is capable of blunting the force of
magick spells, though it affords no protection from magickal powers.
Berman, Whitaker: See Dream Sorcerer.
Binding: Locking of a magickal beings powers, preventing their use. A binding can take the form of a spell or a potion, and can be reversed, or may reverse themselves when the Witch who cast them dies.
Blemish Curse: Designed to upset
Phoebe Halliwell’s wedding day the blemish spell had the double effect of
causing a breakout of pimples on Phoebe’s face, as well as countering the
magick The Source anticipated the Halliwell’s would use to hide the blemishes.
When the vanishing spell was cast on Phoebe it had the unintended effect of
causing all of her to turn invisible, not just the acne, remaining in effect
until the marriage had been successfully prevented from occurring. The
Halliwells were unable to break the curse, but Paige was able to shift the
invisibility from Phoebe to herself in the hopes the wedding might continue.
Latin verses must be said over the intended victim, while sprinkling a powder on
the face, to activate the curse.
Blessing: Giving magickal properties to an object. Patty Halliwell blessed the ring of the Warlock Nicholas, giving him immunity to the powers of her daughters. The individual who made the original blessing can also reverse it.
Blinking: Possessed by a great number of Warlocks this power takes its name from individual’s ability to move from place to place in the blink of an eye. Though often considered evil, Melinda Warren believed this power to have originated from good Witches in the 1600’s.
Book Of Shadows, The: Created by Melinda in 1693 and passed down through the line of Warren Witches ever since, with each adding to it over the centuries, The Book Of Shadows is a repository of magickal knowledge containing spells, potions, history, and information on all kinds of magickal beings; as well as being charmed its own right. The Book and the magick of The Charmed Ones are connected; what affects one affects the other, and only a Witch of Warren blood can remove the Book from Halliwell Manor. The Books magick means that most demonic beings unable to touch it.
Bottomless Pit Of Everlasting Torment: A passageway to a dimension of despair, possibly existing in the same dimensional plane as that of demons. The demonic sin infector Lucas possessed a staff capable of opening a portal to this place of torment. Striking the staff on the ground twice opened the pit, and two more strikes closed it.
Bounty Hunters, Demonic: See: Zotars.
Bowen, P: A Witch in the Warren line who lived in the 1920’s. Bowen was a previous incarnation of Prue Halliwell, a renowned photographer, and a Witch with the power of ice-blasting. She and P Baxter killed and cursed their cousin, P Russell, in 1924.
Brianna: A Witch, and the great, great, great aunt of the Halliwells. She had the power of telekinesis and was responsible for defeating and humiliating the Lord of War Gabrielle. Brianna channeled her power through her hands, but it is to be assumed that she first channeled it through her eyes. Her power was very strong and allowed her to move things great distances.
Brooke: A human woman cursed by The Sorcerer. She was a wolf by night, and a human by day. The Charmed Ones reunited her with her love Christopher. For more information see: Lycanthropy Curse, The.
Brooms: A tool of old magick. Sweeping a broom east to west, tracing the same path as the sun travels, will sweep evil from your path. Phoebe Halliwell was also able to use one to levitate herself, scaring away Witch hunters in the 1600’s.
Brotherhood Of The Thorn,
The: Selected by The Source himself, and
answerable only to him, the Brotherhood is a group of exclusively high-level
demons, once counting the mighty Belthazor among its number. Most members of the
Thorn possess similar powers to Belthazor and, because of the blood oath they
swear upon joining, can be vanquished by the same potion capable of destroying
him.
Reynor was the ultimate authority in the Brotherhood before Cole Turner killed
him, but Vornak controlled the day to day actions of the group. During the
Lexirom fiasco The Charmed Ones vanquished Vornak, and senior members Tarkin and
Trigs, setting the Brotherhood back substantially and leaving them without a
leader.
Buckland, Rex: Rex was a Warlock with telepathic abilities. With them he could read minds, astral project and cause people to see and act how he wished. Rex and the Warlock Hannah worked in conjunction. He posed as the owner of the auction house, and she one of its employees, in an attempt to steal The Charmed Ones powers. Hannah accidentally killed him after an attempt to force the sisters to surrender their powers failed.
Buckland's: An auction house where Prue Halliwell once worked. For a time the Warlock Rex posed as the owner, and Hannah as one of its employees.
