War: The Horseman anointed to turn “nation against nation”. See also: Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse, The.
Ward,
Jackson: The spirit of a man that was executed on Alcatraz. Jackson’s
ghost was trapped on the island for many years, awaiting
a body to transport his spirit across water.
Making a pact with
the Ferrywoman of Hell in order to be spared an eternity in purgatory, Jackson
was to help her gain the soul of one of the Halliwells, but failed and was taken
to Hell anyway.
Once off Alcatraz
Jackson tried to seek revenge on the people he blamed for his death. Jackson had
been a ghost for many years and learnt how to “break the physical plane”,
which meant he could move some physical objects.
Warlock Faction, The:
Tired of living as the scum of the evil realm a group of Warlocks sought to take
advantage of The Source’s weakness by gathering together to destroy both he
and The Charmed Ones, inspired by Devlin's leadership and the Ring Of
Inspiration.
The Warlocks of the faction held many powers, several of which were stolen from
demons, guaranteeing their death at demon hands if they failed.
The Charmed Ones killed several of the faction’s number when recovering the
Ring Of Inspiration, but some Warlocks chose to flee rather than die at their
hands.
Warlock Vanquishing Spell: A general spell for dispatching Warlocks. Phoebe Halliwell wrote it to combat the threat of Devlin’s Warlock faction.
Evil is a faithful foe,
But good does battle best,
We witches will with these words,
Waste the Warlocks evil zest
Warlocks:
Considered the lowest form of evil and looked down upon by higher demonic
beings, Warlocks are the dark equivalent of Witches. Like Witches, Warlocks
possess a wide variety of individual powers as well as the ability to perform
magickal feats, such as spell casting. The Halliwells identify any being with
the power of blinking as a Warlock, but not all Warlocks have demonstrated this
ability.
Warlocks look and act human but have one very specific and dangerous goal: to
kill good Witches and steal their powers. At the point of death a Warlock
captures the magick flowing from a Witch’s body, obtaining their abilities.
Their primary targets are Witches but they are also capable of stealing the
abilities of other supernatural beings they vanquish, though they risk incurring
demonic wrath by killing those that serve evil.
Like a human a Warlock is born and grows, naturally coming from two Warlock
parents but unlike mortals Warlocks do not bleed and possess eyes that are
extremely sensitive to flashes of light. A dazzling burst will disorient them,
temporarily leaving them unable to blink.
Half-Warlocks with mortal parents are not inherently demonic, though they can be
swayed to evil. There is a way to cleanse themselves of their Warlock side, but
it requires an ultimate commitment to good, such as entering the priesthood. A
half-Warlock has normal human frailties, but possesses Warlock powers.
Warren,
Melinda: Extremely magickally strong, Melinda was destined to be born
with powers that would last for centuries, beginning the Warren family line of
Witches. A charmed Witch with three separate powers; telekinesis, premonition
and particle stasis; Melinda began the Book Of Shadows in 1693 and was an
accomplished spell caster with a daughter named Prudence.
After being deceived into sharing her abilities with the Warlock Matthew,
Melinda was denounced as a Witch to the town council. Rather than prove the
charges and condemn her daughter, Melinda chose to burn at the stake, but not
before prophesising the arrival of The Charmed Ones.
Water
Demon: This demon lived in a camp lake and was capable of controlling
the substances of water. It was responsible for the death of The Charmed One’s
mother, Patty Halliwell.
The Water Demon was comprised of semi-solid water and could either attack
directly or strike through those it had killed, by possessing them. Its
chosen method of murder was to fill its victims with water and drown them from
the inside.
The ex-Whitelighter Sam gave his life to destroy this demon, by allowing it to
enter him and then electrocuting himself, dispersing its molecular makeup.
Webster, Hannah: A Warlock that was in league with Rex. She posed as an employee at Bucklands. Hannah was able to ignite fires with her breath, as well as to change her shape into that of a panther. After accidentally killing Rex and failing to obtain the powers of The Charmed Ones she was consumed by supernatural fire and disappeared.
Wendigo,
The: A mortal who made a pact with darkness. They cut out the heart of
their lover and ate, freezing their own. They need to consume the hearts of
others to survive.
The Wendigo was
embodied in an FBI agent, but it is possible that there were several others, as
it is also possible to become a Wendigo if you are slashed by one. If this
happens the only way too prevent becoming a Wendigo is to “melt the heart of
ice” of the Wendigo that infected you, killing it.
A Wendigo appeared as
a normal person during the day and only changed at night.
When Piper Halliwell
was infected Prue and Phoebe used a flare gun to melt the Wendigo’s heart.
Piper’s transformation was the reversed.
Curiously the Wendigo
needs the hearts of those with a blood type of AB negative to survive.
Whitelighters:
Mortal souls intercepted in the moments after death and given a choice between
moving on to the afterlife or becoming a Whitelighter, sworn to guide and
protect Witches and future Whitelighters.
Whitelighters bodies are replicas of their human bodies, but are composed of
orbs. If struck by a power that would usually kill, for example an energy ball
or particle acceleration, their bodies will explode into orbs then reform
relatively unharmed; though they can be knocked unconscious. Any physical injury
is repaired almost instantaneously.
Mystical poison from a Darklighter’s arrow is the only thing capable of
dispatching a Whitelighter, as well as the only ill a Whitelighter is unable to
cure themselves of. A Whitelighter’s healing gift is not meant for themselves,
nor will the ability function effectively on demonic beings.
In addition to healing Whitelighters possess a great range of magickal
abilities; molecular alteration; levitation; orbing and telekinesis; as well as
the telepathic power to communicate with and track Witches and future
Whitelighters, shield them from the perception of Darklighters, and cast mental
illusions. Using their telepathy Whitelighters are even able to ‘look down’
on Earth from their dimension, hearing thoughts, but an eclipse can block their
sight.
Whitelighters also have their own language, which sounds to human ears as a
series of clicks and clacks.
The Whitelighter elders govern the order and insist on adherence to strict rules
in relation to their duties. It is forbidden for Whitelighters and Witches to
fall in love, though this has been known to happen. Patty Halliwell fell in love
with Sam her Whitelighter, and Piper Halliwell with Leo Wyatt.
Whitelighter Council:
Ruling body of the Whitelighters. They take the souls of worthy mortals and
give them the choice to become Whitelighters after death.
The Council resides in a different dimension to the Human plane and has
stringent rules about its contact with the earthly realm. For example Witches
and Whitelighters are not allowed to fall in love, Whitelighters are only to
heal if the Council allows it, and Witches are not meant to know of the
existence of Whitelighters, at least when they are novices. Punishment for
Whitelighters breaking these rules can be severe.
Whitelighter Dimension: A realm between life and death inhabited by Whitelighters. Time moves differently in this plane than in the mortal world. A mortal month is equal to a day in the Whitelighter realm, but this may be variable.
Wilder, Sam:
Whitelighter to Patty Halliwell, and the father of Paige Matthews. He was
present the day Patty was killed by the Water Demon. After the trauma of this
event he clipped his wings and waited at the lake for The Charmed Ones.
Sam gave his life to vanquish the Water Demon and save Prue Halliwell, reuniting
with his love Patty in the afterlife.
Williamson,
Dr. Curtis: The doctor that treated Piper Halliwell when she had Aroya
fever. He became obsessed with finding out the reason behind her cure. To this
end he experimented with the blood of the Charmed Ones, ultimately acquiring all
of their powers.
Dr. Williamson became
unstable because of the powers, killing criminals and giving their organs to
terminally ill patients. His mortal form was never meant to contain the powers
of the Halliwells and they drove him mad, twisting his desire to do good deeds.
Dr. Williamson died
after trying to kill the Charmed Ones.
Witches:
Supernatural humans with the ability to perform magickal feats, such as casting
spells and scrying. Each Witch possesses a specific talent or power, present
from birth, which grows in power and scope with use.
A Witch must follow the Wiccan Reed: “and harm none do as ye will”, and is
unable to cast spells for personal gain. If a Witch does so there are always
supernatural consequences.
Witches have the freedom to choose to use their magick for good or ill.
Woogyman, The: Comprised of an oily smoke the Woogyman, as named by a juvenile Phoebe Halliwell, lies confined in the basement of Halliwell Manor. Though Grams fought it with a spell, entombing it within the Manor’s foundations, an earthquake can release it.
I am light,
I am one too strong to fight,
Return to dark,
Where shadows dwell,
You cannot have this Halliwell,
Go away,
And leave my sight,
And take with you this endless night
Despite the fact The Woogyman cannot leave
the basement, if released, it can extend its insidious reach by corrupting
innocents; invading them with its smoke like essence and driving them to commit
unprovoked acts of violence. It has also demonstrated the ability to corrupt the
Halliwell Manor, sealing the home with energy fields, and was able to bestow a
new power upon Phoebe. The Woogyman gave her the ability to create solid objects
from the energy it is comprised of.
The Woogyman can easily be banished back to its prison when any Halliwell
Witch recites the light spell. No mention is made of the Woogyman in the Book Of
Shadows, but knowledge of the demon as well as the spell to deal with it, are
part of a story Grams Halliwell passed along to a young Phoebe.
Wrestlers: Members of the demonic Training Academy, these wrestlers were adept at beating the humanity out of recruits in the wing. As strong demons they were resistant to the powers of Witches. Prue and Phoebe Halliwell were able to defeat them in the ring, vanquishing them.
Wrestling Ring: The arena wherein human recruits had their humanity beaten from them. In extreme cases the recruits would be pinned to the mat; it would open, and they would fall to their flaming fates. The pit beneath the ring did not discriminate. It would destroy humans, Witches, or demons.
Wyatt,
Leo: Before becoming a Whitelighter Leo was a mortal who
died in World War II. He was married to a woman named Lillian and she received a
posthumous purple heart of bravery in Leo’s honor. Leo was studying to be a
doctor, and signed up to be a medic in the war in order to help people.
Now Leo serves as The Charmed One’s Whitelighter, and is Piper Halliwell’s
husband. Though he first hid his supernatural nature from the sisters, posing as
a handyman, the truth was revealed after a Darklighter injured him. After
Prue’s death Leo has found himself guiding the sisters, as well as fighting by
their side.
Wyke,
Andrew: A mortal in league with a cabal of Rat Demons, laundering their
money. He murdered Angela Provisolli to stop her from revealing his secrets,
framing her former husband Stan.
In turn the Rat Demons murdered him to prevent The Charmed Ones from discovering
their operation.
